More Information

Departing from

Marina Bas-du-Fort (Pointe-à-Pitre/Le Gosier), Guadeloupe.

Airport

Guadeloupe Maryse Condé Airport, otherwise known as Pointe-à-Pitre International Airport (PTP) is 10km from the marina which is a 30-minute journey by car/shuttle. There are regular flights from several eastern US cities, Miami (3 hours 35 minutes), New York (4 hours 30 minutes) with American and Montreal (4 hours 45 mins) with Air Canada and Transat.

Many connecting flights are offered through neighboring islands including Antigua, St. Martin and St Barts.

Please check the schedule on the airport website.

The Boats

We are chartering two Bali 42 four cabin catamarans each with a private head, so there is plenty of space for 8 people and fully equipped for cruising, with all the safety gear (including life jackets), cooking utensils, a grill, towels, bed linens, snorkeling gear, etc.

Each boat will have an experienced instructor / skipper to keep you safe and enhance the learning experience.

Eating and Provisioning

We will plan the exact itinerary on the Zoom call before hand - but we will do a mix of eating on the boat and dingying ashore to bars and restaurants.

Once we have decided where we are going, we will create a list and provision from a local supermarket.

Cruising Ground

Shaped like a butterfly and edged by turquoise lagoons, Guadeloupe blends French savoir-faire with Caribbean rhythm: rainforests rising behind white-sand beaches, Creole music drifting past boulangeries, and a pace that invites you to slow down without sacrificing on adventure.

For years, the island lingered just beyond the spotlight, eclipsed by other more polished Caribbean destinations but travel tastes shifted to craving places with a distinctive, lived-in local culture, and millions caught a glimpse of Guadeloupe through the British series Death in Paradise, filmed among the island’s pastel towns, palm-lined bays, and blazing tropical light.

Guadeloupe delivers the rare luxury of allowing you to choose everything at once: France and the Caribbean, culture and nature, and a party that never ends.

The euro is its currency, and as part of the European Union, the island offers infrastructure and public services that are reassuringly familiar.

Planning is a big part of the cruising experience, so we will decide our exact itinerary together through Google Meets beforehand, but do some Googling, check out the charts and read about potential destinations.

Teaching and Certifications

The goal of the flotilla is to build experience and confidence in bareboat chartering and although we are not planning any formal lessons, we will teach as we go.

You should record the days in your logbook and they will contribute to your overall experience and rank towards bareboat chartering certification.

What to bring

February is one of the best months to visit Guadeloupe, as it falls within the dry season with consistently warm temperatures; days average around 86°F but around 10°F cooler at night; there is less rainfall than other times of the year; and plenty of sunshine.

The average sea temperature is a very pleasant 80°F (27°C) and February is typically one of the least humid months. Winds are typically moderate and great for sailing.

The whole area is very informal, so shorts, t-shirts, swimmers, water shoes, etc. We may get the odd short storm, so pack a light rain jacket.

Please pack your gear in a soft bag - backpack, duffel or hold all, rather than a hard sided suitcase as soft luggage is easier to store on the boat.

Bring toiletries and any medication and let us know of any dietary requirements on the planning call so we can provision appropriately.

Cruising is a bit like luxury camping on the water, so think of it that way as you pack, and try not to pack too much as space is limited.
