Coastal Passagemaking

Challenge yourself with overnight, offshore passages, and nighttime landfalls on our 5-day advanced cruising course. When coupled with the Nauticed online-based sailing theory, students can earn an Offshore Captain Certification.

Structure:

This is a 5-day, 4-night live aboard course on board a 40+ ft monohull, or Catamaran and features a mix of on-board lectures and practical exercises that build skills and confidence in handling and navigating a boat in any weather, day, or night within coastal waters or up to 20 miles offshore.

Typically, there are only three students per boat/instructor, but we can accommodate four if a group of friends or two couples enroll together.

Topics

Passage planning, Sail shape and strategies, Hull design principles, heavy weather techniques, practice the navigational techniques such as understanding charts and government publications used in navigation, trip planning, course plotting, position fixes, tides and currents, avoiding hazards, and much more.

Students are expected to bring their own safety equipment, such as a lifejacket, with tether and strobe.
